CITIC Pacific Mining took its haul truck simulator to the school as part of the annual NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Students patiently queued for their turn, with CITIC Pacific Mining volunteers showing them how to drive the massive machines.
CITIC Pacific Mining Community Relations Advisor Helen Antonas said the experience was mostly about fun, but also introduced the students to career opportunities in their local community.
“We provided the children with hard hats and they had a great time pretending they were truck drivers on a mine site,” she said.
“Exposing them to local industries allows them to become familiar with job opportunities in their own backyard.”
Roebourne District High School Principal Erica Prosser said the children got a lot out of the experience.
“It’s a good way for the students to engage with and understand the industries in their community, and they certainly had a great time,” she said.
