The ProductS
CITIC Pacific Mining's Sino Iron project will produce both magnetite concentrate and magnetite pellets. The chemical name for magnetite is ferrous-ferric oxide and its chemical formula is Fe3O4.
Magnetite is comprised of 72% iron. Iron (Fe) is a metallic element and composes about 5% of the Earth’s crust. The principal ores of iron are hematite (70% iron) and magnetite.
Magnetite is the most magnetic of all the naturally occurring minerals on Earth. These magnetic properties allow it to be readily refined into an iron ore concentrate, a portion of which is then processed further to become magnetite pellets.
The Sino Iron project has over two billion tonnes of identified magnetite ore, placing it in a strong position as magnetite (both concentrate and pellets) gains popularity in the steel production process.
