Road safety and recreation initiatives

As the Sino Iron project continues to grow, CITIC Pacific Mining (CPM) has committed to a number of initiatives which encourage its employees and contractors to act responsibly and safely on the road and while enjoying local recreational areas.

In conjunction with the WA Police Pilbara District Office, CPM launched the Pilbara Road Safety Initiative earlier this year. The partnership provides employees with a formal avenue to report unsafe driving behaviour by other employees on public roads to a supervisor or health and safety representative. Similarly, if members of the public see any unsafe driving practices by CPM vehicles, they can notify Dampier police who will follow up with the CPM safety team for internal investigation.

Inspector Peter Morrissey of the Police’s Pilbara District Office said they were very supportive of the initiative, which included additional support from CPM with three Pilbara traffic patrol vehicles being fitted with rear window road safety signs.

“I thank CITIC Pacific Mining for their involvement and commitment in assisting Pilbara Police to keep our roads safe,” Inspector Morrissey said.

At this time of year many people enjoy the recreational areas around the Sino Iron site. CPM has also recently partnered with the organisation ‘Leave No Trace’ to promote responsible outdoor travel and recreation. Leave No Trace will be educating CPM employees and contractors so they are better able to enjoy their recreational time safely and responsibly, with minimal environmental impact.
