More than 70 enterprising women from across the community, government and industry gathered for Roebourne Women's Day on 20 November.
Rio Tinto invited CITIC Pacific Mining (CPM) and other resource and contracting companies to participate in the event.
The women discussed ideas aimed at encouraging women to gain employment in the resources sector.
They identified four key areas that required attention and action, including work pre-requisites and working conditions, cultural awareness, training and education and family support.
"It was a great forum for local women to discuss the issues that make it difficult for them to get employment in the resources industry," CPM's Aboriginal Liaison Officer Kelly Slattery said.
"Obviously, the next step is to ensure that the barriers identified are eliminated, and solutions implemented, as an integral part of the work culture within the resources sector."
The day ended with about 150 women celebrating at a community dinner in Wickham which included a special performance by Mary G, the Black Queen of the Kimberley.
