Community Benefits
Community involvement in the Sino Iron project is a critical element to the project's success. Building sustainable long-term working relationships and community partnerships enables the development of lasting social, environmental and economic benefits. To achieve our commitments to the communities where employees work and live and our business operates CPM will always strive to:
- Anticipate and assess potential impacts our operations may have on the local community and work in partnership to reduce impacts;
- Work with local people including local government and Indigenous groups in identifying community needs;
- Partner with local groups in priority projects and initiatives; and
- Enrich the community beyond the life of mining operations.
Clontarf foundation
The project places an important focus on the local Aboriginal Traditional Owner groups in the Cape Preston area. Together with these groups we are implementing training, employment, business and community development programs. These programs include a Work Ready initiative and a partnership with the Clontarf Foundation whose education-based program supports Aboriginal boys in Roebourne and Karratha. We also support numerous other community partnerships and events including Karratha's FeNaClNG festival, Roebourne Women's Day and local cultural and sporting events and charities.
